Information and policies
This section of our website provides students, parents and carers with information about upcoming examinations and guidance on how to prepare.
Harris Academy Wimbledon’s centre number is 14548
Examination Officer: Ms L Alin exams@harriswimbledon.org.uk
This period marks a pivotal step in their academic and personal development, bringing with it a mixture of anticipation, excitement, and, understandably, some nerves.
GCSE and A-Level students will sit their formal examinations in the summer. A timetable for those examinations will be published on our website by the end of the spring term.
Students must arrive at the Academy, in full school uniform and with all necessary equipment.
The timetable details all the public examinations as well as the warm-up events for all exams. Warm-up events are when your child will sit with subject specialists and cover any final points prior to entering the exam hall. These are crucial moments to clarify any last-minute details and we ask that all students attend their warm-ups to give them the best possible start to every exam.
Each student will be issued with a personal examination timetable. This will detail the exams that they are specifically entered for. All students will need to be on-site for 7.45am every day during the examination period. This will enable warm-ups and morning clinics to take place. In turn, this will support your child to be organised with their time and equipment, reducing any unnecessary stress caused by entering an exam hall late or unprepared.
Lateness
There are very strict JCQ regulations for the timing of public exams, so candidates should allow extra travel time to ensure they are outside the exam venue at least 20 minutes before the exam start time. If problems arise affecting arrival time candidates must contact Reception as soon as possible. In cases of extreme lateness, it may not be possible for you to sit the exam.
Illness and other mitigating circumstances
It is normally best to sit an exam if f you are feeling slightly unwell. In cases of a candidate being very unwell, they should not attend the exam, but should immediately contact their Head of Year and exams@harriswimbledon.org.uk outlining the reason for the absence.
Candidates should, where possible, obtain medical evidence of any illness.
Any candidate who feels unwell during an examination should notify the invigilator at the time.
Candidates experiencing other difficulties at the time of the examination should, if possible, notify their Head of Year before the examination but at the latest within 24 hours of the exam.
Understanding JCQ Regulations
As we gear up for the upcoming exams, it is crucial that we all – students, parents, and the school – work in harmony to ensure the best possible environment for our students to showcase their abilities. A fundamental aspect of this preparation is understanding and adhering to the regulations set forth by the Joint Council for Qualifications (JCQ).
The JCQ outlines specific regulations for written examinations, which are designed to maintain the integrity and fairness of the examination process. These regulations cover a wide range of important topics, including:
- The conduct expected of candidates during exams.
- The use of permitted materials and equipment.
- The repercussions of malpractice or breach of regulations.
Accessing JCQ Information for Candidates:
To familiarize yourself and to ensure full compliance with these regulations, we urge both students and parents to review the JCQ's "Information for Candidates – Written Exams" document. This document is accessible via the JCQ website at JCQ - Information for Candidates.
It is essential that all our Year 11 & Year 13 students and their parents/guardians acknowledge the importance of these regulations. Understanding and accepting the scope of these examinations is crucial for effective preparation and setting realistic expectations.
