UCAS and Careers
It is our intention that all students at HAWI6 go on to higher education, and most will either apply to a Russel Group university or degree apprenticeship. As such we take time to carefully consider how best to support students in their journey through the UCAS process. All students will receive a careers interview with our careers advisor, and our Director of Sixth Form will conduct additional interviews to support students in their university and apprenticeship applications.
Students will start preparing for and thinking about UCAS in the Spring term of Year 12, with a series of university visits, assemblies, talks and meetings focusing on not only the UCAS process, but also top tips for successfully applying to competitive degrees and apprenticeships including Oxbridge, medicine and veterinary science. The UCAS process continues into the Summer Term with all students completing their initial choices and their UCAS draft personal statement. In Year 13 students will be assigned a UCAS mentor who will guide them through their personal statement, as well as course and university choices. Students will also have the opportunity to work with staff and students at KCS, including mock Oxbridge interviews and personal statement workshops.

As a new sixth form, we do not have destinations data for our alumni. However, we are fortunate to be part of the thriving and hugely successful Harris Federation where sixth formers attend elite Russel Group universities at a rate of over double the national average. In 2023 four in five Harris sixth formers got a university place and 55 secured a place at either Oxford or Cambridge. A further 44 are now attending courses in either medicine, dentistry or veterinary science. We know that HAWI6 students will follow in the footsteps of such academic excellence.
